Three Burners or Five

A three-burner grill at 36,000 BTU covers ordinary cooking, because three independent zones are enough for a hot side and a cool side. The five-burner combination at 74,000 BTU is not a bigger grill - it is a grill, a griddle and a pizza oven sharing one frame.

Why 74,000 is not twice the grill

Output is sized to cooking area. Five burners heat a larger surface plus a griddle, so the figure has more to do. Divided by the area it serves, the two units are closer than the headline numbers suggest - which is the point made in what BTU actually tells you.

What the combination is really for

The griddle. A flat plate cooks eggs, onions and everything small enough to fall through a grate, which a grill simply cannot handle. Anyone weighing this against buying a grill and a griddle and a pizza oven separately is comparing one purchase against three, and three places to put them.

Which constraint decides

Household of two to four, ordinary cooking: the three-burner. Three zones is enough, and five burners are five things to clean.

Regular groups, or the griddle matters: the combination.

Pizza specifically and nothing else: neither - the portable oven does that job better and moves.

Questions

Is 36,000 BTU enough for a grill?

For everyday cooking, yes. Three independently controlled burners give a hot zone and a cool zone, which is what most cooking needs.

What does the griddle add?

A flat surface for eggs, onions and anything that falls through a grate.

Which is better value?

It depends what you would otherwise buy. Against three separate appliances the combination is one purchase; against a grill alone it is more than needed.
